The Ice-Cream Vendor

Trickled down his forehead,

A drop of saline water.

The scorching sun glowing above,

And beaten by the weather-

Fatigue was clear and distinct on his eyes,

With an impression of bitter;

A life so merciless and unrepentant,

Yet the smile remains intact,

As he serves the children and grown alike,

Knowing not a single one,

Who’ll serve him same in his turn.

Silently he moves on ringing the bell,

To serve the big and to serve the small,

And see a smile or two crawl –

On the happy faces he serves along,

But deep down he knows this well,

Beneath the smile a deceiver dwells,

Who deceives life and truth along;

And knows the truth to him belongs,

That he knows not a single man,

Who’ll serve him same in his turn…
